Thank You for Helping Defeat TOPA: We Accomplished This Together!

Congratulations!  We are thrilled to report that despite incredible odds, we succeeded in preventing the passage of TOPA during the current legislative session!

Thanks to your help, we were able to beat back a TOPA amendment in the House, and were so effective that the Senate also took a pass on attaching TOPA as an amendment to the economic development bill. Even better — neither chamber voted on the original bills either!

Many handicappers did not give us much of a chance of defeating this latest TOPA proposal, especially since the legislature passed it without debate in 2021. Fortunately, Governor Baker was there to veto.

We would like to thank all of you for contacting your elected officials and letting them hear your voice. YOUR VOICE MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE!

We owe it all to you — AND THIS VICTORY IS YOURS!  This proves what we can all accomplish when property owners organize and communicate with our elected officials.

During the legislative session, representatives and senators often told us that they rarely hear from property owners. Rather, what they hear and see is a constant campaign by tenant activists to pass laws that infringe on property rights and harm the small mom and pop property owner.

We hope that this defeat of TOPA will mark a new beginning for our movement, as we strive to protect our property rights and our dignity, while we provide for our tenants.

Unfortunately — TOPA, rent control, transfer taxes, and countless other harmful legislation will once again be considered when the new governor and legislature are sworn in this coming January.

We will have to redouble our efforts when the next legislative session begins by contacting our representatives early and often. This will be an ongoing battle for some time. But if we stick together and advocate vigorously, we will prevail.

Whether we face TOPA, rent control, or other dangers, SPOA will always be there to fight for you. We will continue to take our message to the media and the legislature, as we did this past year.

But we will still need your active support! So please donate to SPOA today and encourage others to do so as well. Please consider donating $100, $500, $1,000, or more!

We are building a grassroots movement to save our businesses and to encourage the construction of new and affordable housing in ways that will benefit everyone — without infringing upon the rights of housing providers.

Congratulations again. We are proud to have you with us, now and always!

Sincerely,

Small Property Owners Association (SPOA)

P.S. Please consider donating $100, $500, $1,000, or more. We will need all the support we can get to ensure further victory in the future!
