Thank You To All Who Attended Boston’s Virtual “Rent Stabilization" Session
Dear SPOA Members and Friends,
We would like to thank all of you who attended Boston’s virtual “Rent Stabilization Session” to oppose rent control on Tuesday, May 24.
Everyone noticed that housing providers turned out in full force — and we have YOU to thank for that! Please do not underestimate your voice or the importance of it! It has already made a difference!
Since undertaking political lobbying efforts headed by Richard Tisei and Jim Eisenberg of Preti Strategies, we have heard from legislators that property owners are not communicating their concerns with officials at the city or state levels. The discussion of housing is almost entirely one-sided, as elected officials hear constantly from tenant advocates, but not us.
Mayor Wu’s administration may not be interested in an open dialogue or open meeting laws. She appears determined to fulfill her campaign promise of rent control for her constituents.
However, we are her constituents and voters as well. We pay handsomely through our tax base at approximately 2.5% of the residential tax rate to fund approximately 70% of Boston’s budget.
We would be remiss in not informing you that this battle will be ongoing — and that we need your advocacy. So please continue to support this ongoing effort!
Your participation is already making a positive difference. This is crucial to advancing our cause and making our voices heard.
Please contact your representatives at the city and state levels to voice your opposition to rent control and all policy proposals that violate our property rights. We have the right to run our properties safely and with dignity, as we provide for our tenants!
Thank you again for our successful turn out on May 24 — and let’s continue to grow our numbers and make our presence known. If we stick together, we can win!
Sincerely,
Small Property Owners Association (SPOA)
